UPDATE: first of all, I'd like to point out that no less then TEN people have read this blog post since I posted it, yet only ONE person has commented on it. COME ON PEOPLE. Don't stalk. Comment. :-) Seriously.
Secondly, as soon as I posted this, Owen woke up. We played a while, ate, and then played some more. Then, with a rather large smile on his tiny face, Owen proceeded to vomit IN my mouth, in my hair, on my shirt, down my shirt, and everywhere in between. Sick. I had to take another shower.
I am back to the old, "my house is not clean" bit. Seriously, it is annoying. I am not saying that my little distraction is not a GREAT distraction, but I know MANY other mothers that somehow manage to have a SPOTLESS house and have a tremendously happy baby to boot. Tell me: HOW?!?!?
Please, tell me your secrets. I constantly apologize to anyone that knocks on our door about the state of our abode. Their response, "you have a good excuse." While I am sure this is true, that response tends to wear on me a bit. Not that I would rather them say "yeah lady! this place looks like trash!" But, nonetheless, I shouldn't have an excuse for not keeping my house.
MOMMIES, YOUR MISSION: GIVE ME ALL OF YOUR HOUSEKEEPING POINTERS!! How do you do it?? And I am serious this time, if you read this blog at all, even if you NEVER comment: if you are a mom I NEED you to tell me. My sanity is on the line people.
The laundry is endless. Yes, I did know this would happen before little Owen arrived, but it seems that even if I do find the time to actually do the laundry 8 times out of 10 I don't have time to fold it. Sometimes for a few days. Don't judge me people, I have only been doing this for going on 10 weeks now.
Before I move on, let me just say that reruns of Dawson's Creek have kept me somewhat looking forward to my early morning wake up call (around 6:30). And, on that same note, reruns of 8 Simples Rules have kept Travis and I entertained at about 3:45 AM when we BOTH get up for the one time in the night that Owen wakes up. Yes, we both get up. This has been going on since Owen was born. Not that we are both necessary, but for some reason we both get up. Makes for good company, and thank goodness for DVR's (or the cheaper version of TIVO).
Just a few things these days:
1. Owen is becoming quite interested in his toys. He likes to play on his gym/mat thingy, and he is actually reaching for the toys that hang around him.
2. He has this one toy that he really loves. It is a little green elephant that you pull and it giggles and shakes. He LOVES this elephant. He gets the most GINORMOUS smile on his face, it is so cute.
3. I think he is on the verge of a giggle. He has almost done it a couple times, but not just yet.
4. He really enjoys making spit bubbles with his mouth. That has made for many a soaked outfit.
5. He only wakes up once in the night to eat. Between 3:30 and 4:30. So that means we sleep. It is nice. Although, Owen has been sleeping in at least 4 hour stretches since he came home from the hospital, so we were never too deprived.
Well, he has just fallen asleep while playing with his toys on his mat. So, I guess I should go try to get a couple things done while he sleeps.

I say forget the 'good excuse' and just work on a few things that make your house not look COMPLETELY disgusting. Dishes are our main thing... as long as the dishes aren't piled up and stinking our home at least appears sanitary, if not spotless. Our home will NEVER be spotless because neither of us is all that concerned with it.
Also, the guys way of keeping things clean is storage. If you need another laundry basket so the dirty clothes aren't everywhere, get one... if you need another laundry basket to just scoop clean, un-folded laundry into get one of those and live out of that.
I am with John...as long as the dishes are done and the counter tops are clean, I am feeling pretty good!!
Here's my tip...do one "chore" a day. For instance-vacuum on Monday, clean the bathroom on Tuesday, laundry on Wednesday, you get the idea. This makes those tasks seem not as daunting because you are splitting them up and you know that they will get done at least once a week.
Side note...I would try to refrain from cleaning after Owen is in bed. Use that time to relax on the couch, watch a movie, take a bath, etc. Clean while he is napping during the day or playing contently.
Hope this helps!!!
I check on your blog every now and then. I haven't commented because I wasn't sure if you remembered me or not from Central. Owen seems precious! I wish I had any great house cleaning tips for you! I too struggle with the same issues! As they get older they entertain themselves more, which helps to get at least a few things done. I thought I had it all figured out, then we added another one into the mix and you start over (with LOTS more laundry, of course)! I also try to do a few chores a day and it seems to help some, although I miss it when my house was all clean on the same day, but who are we kidding, with kiddos it gets messed up in just a matter of minutes! Hang in there!
Jeri, I am about to share with you the most wonderful, awesome, fabulous website in the world. It teaches you exactly how to keep your house clean and how to stay on top of your stuff (like laundry, dishes, and clutter). Furthermore, it is a guilt free phylosophy (I think I spelled that wrong). It is always saying "you aren't behind, you are just getting started". I am a person who loves a clean house, but I did not know how to achieve one until I was given the very specific and precise instructions on this website. Although I do not follow them all to a T, and some weeks are better than others, this info has helped me tremendously. Here it is:

Do what you can and check out the web site from Cassie. Don't do like I did and miss opportunities to play with Owen because you are cleaning. You will move soon and have more room and storage & that will help! Do a little t a time!
Love

Just wait till you get puke down the front of your shirt and it pools in your bra. Awesome. About the house cleaning stuff, I used to like to clean my whole house in one day and be done with it. I have learned that that doesn't fly anymore. I made myself a little schedule, which is now out the window, but still a great idea. On my schedule I had things like Mon--Vacuum, Tues.--Sweep, Weds.--Dust, Thurs.--Bathrooms, etc. etc. It is true that everything really does take 2-4 times as long as it should. With the creation model, I think it is also super important to leave one day with NOTHING. That way you don't have to think about cleaning (or you can just sit among the piles and dirt and think....no, I have to sit here and not clean, it is on the schedule). Hope this was not too much blubbering and a little helpful. Your boy is beautiful, and he has your eyes!
