HaPpY bIrThDaY oWeN!!!!
I can't believe he is one!! This will be a short post because quite frankly, I am exhausted.
Owen slept terribly last night...so he got in our bed with us very early in the wee hours this morning. So, we started our day with "happy birthday to you", and ended it with "happy birthday to you" also. He is such a sweet boy. His little smile is the best. And honestly, I like that he still doesn't have any teeth, because I got a whole year of that cute toothless grin!
We had a great day today! We had a little birthday party at our house and Owen got some great presents! It was so fun for Owen to have some friends over today. Here are some pictures of the day.

Gaining Weight, The Bay City Rollers, Bed Time Friends, and how I feel about Pluto.
Well, Owen has the Croup, so he is feeling crummy (but today he is feeling better...i started this blog on Thursday!). Although, he is always smiling, so he is surprisingly upbeat considering. Also, when we took him to the doc today for this diagnosis, we discovered he has only gained 1 pound since his 9 month check up. He weighs 17 lbs 3 oz...and he went from being in the 3rd percentile to not even being on the chart. :-( So...ugh. We have to try to get him to eat more fat and calories, and get him to drink more milk - regular, strawberry, chocolate, soy, or otherwise. Milk is milk, according to the doc. The more we can get down him, the better. Even pedia sure and stuff like that. So, I am on a mission to make sure he gets a certain number of calories a day, even if that means I have to be feeding him something all day long. I guess at his 15 month appointment, if he is still on the really low end, they will have to run some tests. yikes. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get more calories into his diet? (no peanut butter) I think maybe he doesn't eat enough calories ever day. I don't know.
Something hilarious: Owen LOVES "S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y night" by the Bay City Rollers. He LOVES it. He despises having his diaper changed. He won't be still, he fusses and cries and he hates it. We give him toys to play with on the changing table, and he won't have it. We sing some songs, and he is only somewhat interested. Well, for whatever reason Travis started singing BCR and Owen got a HUGE smile on his face and had his diaper changed with no problem. That is now the diaper changing song. :-) So funny.
Owen sleeps through the night now. From about 8/8:30 to 6/6:30. Bless him. He has some special friends that sleep with him. He has his Mr. Monk lovey that he has had since he was a tiny tiny boy, and he has Cappy the monkey that Travis and I bought in New York at FAO Schwartz about 5 months before he was born, and now he has a Curious George that glows and plays lullubies. He LOVES these friends. When we put him in bed (AWAKE!!! he puts himself to sleep even!!) he grabs all of these friends and pulls them to him. It is really sweet.
Alright, I am tired of hearing how Pluto is not a planet. How sad for Pluto to be demoted. And the term "plutoed" is even in the Urban Dictionary. It basically means to be demoted. Sad. Pluto will always be a planet to me. I'm on your side, Pluto!!
And now for the pictures!!

Bad day?
So, I think the lady in front of me in line at the store today was having a bad day. At least, she looked like she was having the worst day of her life...and the contents of her basket echoed that. She couldn't have been more than 25 years old (and she was quite large). Besides the angry look on her face her basket contained: 5 packages of cold medication, a LARGE box of pregnancy tests, a big box of donut holes, a big box of cookies, 4 bags of chocolate candy, a package of 10 lighters (i imagine she was going to purchase cigarettes at the check out as well), and 2 DVD's. I don't know, maybe it was just me, but I think that lady was having a bad day.
Also...check out Travis' blog (and scroll down to the Jan. 1st post) for a really funny video of Owen!

Goodbye 2008...Hello 2009
Well, I got a call from my brother today telling me I needed to update my blog. So, here is my update. :-)
This time last year, I was getting bigger by the minute, waiting for Owen to arrive. I can't believe it has been almost a year since he was born. He is 11 months old now. He really loves playing with toys these days, especially interactive toys. He is a funny boy. He claps and says "yay!" and dances (bops up and down) to music. He definitely gets into EVERYTHING. He even manages to get into cabinets that have cabinet locks on them...and take things out of said cabinets. Oh, here come the joys of a toddler.
He no longer eats baby food. But, he eats REALLY well now. He eats 3 meals and 2 snacks a day. Walking and attempting to run take alot of energy. :-) AND...he is FINALLY drinking out of a sippy cup and a straw cup. He would occasionally take sips before, but now he really drinks out of it. That is a relief. The only issue I have now is the nursing. He is to the point where he climbs up on me and starts to pull my shirt up. I guess it is time to start weening, huh?
I am looking for suggestions of books to read. So, leave comments with your favorites. I just finished reading the Twilight series for the second time, and a friend reccommended The Time Travelers Wife, so I am about to start that. I am not into murder mysteries, or Sci fi (aliens, etc), or scholarly books. :-) I like to keep it light hearted. Any suggestions?
Alright, picture time!!

Back to the real world...
Well...I feel like for the last week and a half I have been living in another world. Just allow me this one post of being, well...a teenager I guess.
A couple weeks ago I went with Travis to see Twilight. I really liked it, so I decided I was going to try to read the first book in the series. I am usually not into scifi/fantasy/vampire stuff - but Travis liked the first book and wanted to see the movie, and it didn't look too bad, so I decided to go. I liked the movie alot more than I thought I would, so the reading of the first book began...
I had no idea what I was getting myself into.
I could not put the book down. And I mean it. Every single little second of the day that I could possibly be reading I was reading. I like reading, but I have never read a book that I just could not put down. Travis finished reading the second book in the series about the time I finished the first one, so I moved on to the second (New Moon) and he moved on to the third (Eclipse). Again...I could not put the book down. I was so into the story. We finished our books at the same time and moved on tot he next (fourth book is Breaking Dawn). I finished all four books in a week and a half. ELEVEN days (I read the fourth and longest book in 24 hours). I have never read a book more than probably 300 pages until these books. And even a 300 page book would usually take me a week at least to read because I would probably only read a couple chapters a day. I liked all of the books I read, but nothing like the twilight series. The first book is 498 pages, the second is 563 pages, third is 629 pages, fourth was 768 pages. That's 2, 458 pages in eleven days.
Now that I have read all of the books we are going to see the movie again.
I will read the books again, that's for sure. And I never do that. They are the best books I have ever read.
You should read them. That is all.

Houston...we have a walker!
Well, Owen is 10 months old today. I can hardly believe it. In two short months he will be a one year old, I can't stand it. He is so cute, and gets cuter every day, in my humble opinion. :-) I also can't believe that he is walking 85% of the time. He only crawls when he needs to get down low for something, or when he is trying really hard to beat us somewhere. What is really sweet is when I walk into the room and he stands up and walks toward me with his arms up and a big ol smile.
He still loves to play with water bottles and bowls (tupperware type) from the kitchen. He has this one bowl that he has been playing with for a long time now. He will push it along the floor, and then he will pick it up and throw it, pick it up and throw it, pick it up and throw it...repeat cycle. It is pretty funny to watch.
He has also started to blow zerberts. This morning he was nursing, and then started giving me zerberts on my tummy. He thought it was hilarious.
He is eating more on his own. He likes toast, pancakes and of course cheerios and puffs. Any time we have bread of some kind he has to have some, although he is still warming up to tortillas.
He still does not have a single tooth. A toothless walking boy. Hilarious.
Today when Travis got home Owen got really excited and stood up and started walking to Travis. We could tell he was trying to run, he was going as fast as his wobbly legs would carry him and then he would tip over and get right back up and scramble over to Travis. So sweet.
Ok, here are a few pictures.

Cuppy Cakes
I LOVE cupcakes. Seriously. I think we took almost everyone who came to visit us in Malibu to Beverly Hills for Sprinkles Cupcakes. DELICIOUS! Seriously. The Red Velvet cupcakes were good...but not near as good as my mom's red velvet cake. And, I really don't understand why everyone thinks that you have to put cream cheese frosting on red velvet cake. You really don't. Now, I love cream cheese frosting as much as anyone...but I sort of think it ruins a good red velvet cake. At Sprinkles I love the cinnamon sugar cupcakes, black and white cupcakes, milk chocolate cupcakes..OH! and the coconut cupcakes are too die for!! I am pretty sure my friend Lyric can attest to that. Right Lyric? I could go on about my love of Sprinkles...but I won't.
I don't live near Beverly Hills anymore...so Sprinkles is not an option. Although if I get to Dallas anytime soon I will drop by the Sprinkles location there.
I am on a mission to find the best, most delicious cupcakes in Austin, Tx. So far, I have tried 2 places. Here's my review of each cupcake location:
1. Hey Cupcake! On a scale of 1 to 10, I give Hey Cupcake! a 3. Again, they ruin their red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese icing. I also tried the snowcap cupcake (chocolate bottom, vanilla top). My take on this place: buy a (insert favorite store bought boxed cake mix here) and make your own.
2. Polkadots Cupcake Factory On a scale of 1 to 10, I give Polkadots a 5.5. I appreciate a cupcake that isn't so sweet you can feel the cavities forming in your teeth, but these cupcakes just aren't quite sweet enough. They are good, but not good enough. Again with the cream cheese icing on the red velvet. I see a trend. This place is reminiscent of Sprinkles, as it has different choices every day of the week. I tasted 4 flavors: red velvet (you know my opinion on this one, given the above information), Boston Cream Pie (alright, the cream had no flavor), Strawberry Shortcake (basically vanilla cake with icing barely flavored strawberry - but it was decent), and vanilla chocolate chip (a bit too much with the chocolate on the top). All that being said, until I find THE cupcake place in Austin, I will probably eat Polkadots again. (if you click on all the cupcake flavors in this paragraph you can see a picture of each cupcake)
Soon I will be posting pictures and maybe a video of my tiny WALKING boy. Yes!! He is not yet 10 months and he is walking way better than I would expect him to be at this point. He is the tiniest little walking person and it is so dang cute.

Tagged
Ok folks...I was tagged by 2 different people for 2 different things. But, I am doing them both on one blog post. If this isn't your thing...feel free to skip this post and not read it.
FIRST: I was tagged by Ronni.
RULES:
*Link to the person that tagged you and post the rules on your blog
*Share seven random and/or weird facts about yourself
*Tag seven other people at the end of your post and link to their blogs
*Let each person know they've been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog
Ok, let's give this a go.
1. I am a sucker for ABC family movies...especially the Christmas ones. You know I will be tuning in for the "25 days of Christmas"! :-)
2. I no longer work. That's a news flash for most of you. It's a long story involving Owen's eating habits...
3. Wow...I cannot think of another darn thing. This will have to do.
I tag...my sister, carissa, noelle, rebecca, lyric, emily, and cassie.
OKAY...
I was also tagged by Heidi to post the 6th picture in my 6th album on my computer. Well, I use an apple, so my pictures aren't in albums. They are grouped by date...anyway...I chose the 6th picture from the 6th day of Owen's life. :-)

Silly Little Monkey...
Poor Owen had a touch of a tummy bug this weekend that was going around school. But, you would have never known he was sick unless you saw him vomit. He would vomit on the go, and be perfectly happy to be doing it. He never missed a beat. Then Saturday night he got a high fever. Fun. Now that is finally gone, and I think everyone is OK now.
Halloween was fun, although we didn't have as many Trick-or-Treaters as we wanted, or as many as we prepared for, so now we are stuck with tons of candy. We need to get rid of it so we don't eat it. We didn't do the Trick-or-Treating thing this year as we think Owen is too young to start that yet (plus he was under the weather). But we did get in costume and hand out candy, and then have a couple friends over for a scary movie later that night.
The day of Halloween and the day before, were spent watching our classic Halloween movies/shows. Hocus Pocus is great...we watch it EVERY year and we love it in all of it's cheesy glory. We also watched "It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown", and of course one of the best episodes of How I Met Your Mother - the "Slutty Pumpkin" episode. (no, it is not dirty, it is funny)
Now it is November and the Halloween decor will be put away. We got this great inflatable on clearance for our front yard that was a huge hit...everyone that came to our house to get candy stopped and took pictures with it. We will definitely put it up again next year. As I am sure everyone knows, October through December is my favorite time of year...and now I can add January to that because Owen's birthday is the end of January. (can I just take a second to address the fact that he will be a YEAR old in 82 days???)
I was talking to my sister-in-law earlier, and she reminded me that I need to update my blog and that my sister is out blogging me these days. Well, I cannot let that happen. Thanks for the reminder Wendy. As we were talking, we realized that her son Will (Owen's cousin who is 2 1/2 months old) is almost as big as Owen. :-) Granted, Owen is a tiny boy. A "petite flower" as my sister calls him. So really, it is not difficult for any baby to beat Owen in weight. :-) But, Will sure is cute with his chubby cheeks...We can't wait to meet him at Thanksgiving. (Owen actually has TWO cousins named Will. Will Tidmore, and Will Laurence. Will L. was born in August, so he will be known as Will #1, and Will T. was born in September, so he will be known as Will #2.)
We met Will #2 when we went to Abilene for ACU's homecoming 2 weekends ago. He is still tiny as he is only a month and a half old. But, he is cute nonetheless.
Alright, now for the main attraction...PICTURES! And there are many.
